Long Story Short, It all began with the original estimate I received in July of 2021, which was around $4,500 (per se), due to unforeseen and unfortunate illness (I found out I got breast cancer) so I had to delay my move back to California (my home) from Minnesota. I had already paid Marathon Movers the brokers fee of around $2,500. As a broker it is there job as I understand to arrange for a rate in which the customer and broker can agree upon based on the size of move, mileage, tariff, etc with actual movers. In July, there movers failed pick up - 4 times, I was the point of contact and ended up taking over because Marathon could not manage there selected moving company. Skip to …December 2021, it’s time to get my stuff from Minnesota to San Francisco, the cubic ft, the number of boxes, furniture, etc. Had not changed from July 2021 to December 2021, to be honest about 175 cu ft was removed. I contact Marathon to schedule my move, and somehow, my cost doubled! $8,224.01! We lost cu ft, the mileage was the same, the 1 stop which was less than 12 miles from my minnesota residence had not changed, when reviewing the breakdown multiple times with Marathon, I explained there taxation was not correct, they could not charge tax on certain items and the tariff rate really got to me, I knew something was wrong, they played around and gave me “discounts” however it made no difference because of the fluffed pricing. It’s a known fact that the summer months are higher in demand for move and may have an increase in cost in comparison to December or January. Long story short - my items were picked up from minnesota late December 2021, and I was promised a max of 21 days to California per my contract - my furniture was delivered on February 6th, 2022, with 8 hours prior notice in lieu of the contracted 48 hr minimum. I was not in the country - I was in Mexico with family for a needed vacation. I had to pay an extra $100 to marathon (nothing noted in contract stating this) to ask them to deliver a day after they wanted too as I had no one to be present and pay them. When I arrived in the states I went to my unit and I immediately fell to the floor, and began to have a panic attack. I would be very happy to share photos with the Moving Authority Association. All my expensive wooden furniture destroyed. What happened to the blankets I wrapped my tables and glass wine cart In? The wine cart made up of entirely glass and acrylic was broken. Bent, parts removed that should not have been (I had already properly disassembled what needed to be and wrapped it all with heavy duty moving wrap, blankets, etc and they were all gone!), on top of this I am missing over $6,000 plus in shoes and purses yet to be found. I have hired men to help me unload the unit, clean it up, adjust the furniture that could have broken my neck (wait till you see the photos), and it’s almost organized. Boxes should not have been opened and ripped apart! This is 100% unacceptable! This company can not be trusted. You pay them for the their brokerage services yet as the customer you end up managing it all and more. I have contacted marathon multiple times, my phone, email to multiple staff members, asked for supervisors and been hung up on or kept on hold for hours. I now have a new address for them off the SAFETY website - so I’ll send every letter with all associated screen shots of texts, conversations and amount of times I reached out to marathon, The stress they put me through on moving day, the damages to my possessions. The potential missing items of value….I pray they are in the last 4 boxes…..I pray and cry. I would love the Authorities help in this matter.
