On the off chance that I could give them zero stars I would.
I contracted them to move 1 room crosstown in Providence, around 1 mile.
They had three folks, of whom just 1 seemed, by all accounts, to be working at half speed at any given time. Inside and out, they took 9 hours to move me, and broke a table and a light. They were moving so gradually I began emptying the crates myself.
It required me less investment to move from New York a year prior - three hours away!!
I've moved around 8 times in the previous 15 years for work and school. These folks were effectively the most horrible movers.
Avoid them. You'll express gratitude toward me.
DOT officers of each state are generally in charge of the enforcement of the Hours of Service (HOS). These are sometimes checked when CMVs pass through weigh stations. Drivers found to be in violation of the HOS canbe forcedto stop driving for a certain period of time. This, in turn, maynegativelyaffect the motor carrier's safety rating. Requests to change the HOS are a source of debate. Unfortunately, many surveysindicatedriversroutinelyget away with violating the HOS.Such facts have started yet another debate on whether motor carriers shouldbe requiredto us EOBRs in their vehicles.Relying on paper-based log books does not always seem to enforce the HOS law put in place for the safety of everyone.
Advocation for better transportation beganhistoricallyin the late 1870s of the United States. This is when the Good Roads Movement first occurred, lasting all the way throughout the 1920s. Bicyclist leaders advocated for improved roads.Their acts led to the turning of local agitation into the national political movement it became.
The main purpose of the HOS regulation is to prevent accidents due to driver fatigue. To do this, the number of driving hours per day, as well as the number of driving hours per week, havebeen limited.Another measure to prevent fatigue is to keep drivers on a 21 to 24-hour schedulein order tomaintain a natural sleep/wake cycle. Drivers must take a dailyminimumperiod of rest andare allowedlonger "weekend" rest periods. This is in hopes to combat cumulative fatigue effects thataccrueon a weekly basis.
The term "lorry" has an ambiguous origin, but it is likely that its roots were in the rail transport industry. This is where the wordis knownto havebeen usedin 1838 to refer to a type of truck (a freight car as in British usage)specificallya large flat wagon. It may derive from the verb lurry, which means to pull or tug, of uncertain origin. It's expanded meaning was much more exciting as "self-propelled vehicle for carrying goods", and has been in usage since 1911.Previously, unbeknownst to most, the word "lorry"was usedfor a fashion of big horse-drawn goods wagon.
