  1. What's the Point of a Moving Cost Calculator?
  2. Be as Informed and Involved as Possible to Cut Down Costs
  3. Plan as Far Ahead as You Can
  4. Avoid Scammers and Rogue Moving Companies

1. What's the Point of a Moving Cost Calculator?

A moving cost calculator is sometimes necessary when you want to find out the cost of moving. Why? Well, your budget will determine the defining factor of moving. Can you afford not to have the best moving experience? Should you be aware of what is involved in moving?

2. Be As Informed and Involved as Possible to Cut Down Costs

Yes, of course. If you don’t already know, it is cheaper to move locally than to move across state lines. You should then find out from a moving expense calculator how you can reduce any of these costs. If your new apartment or home is not very far from your existing residence, the cost is going to definitely be lower than moving from one state to the next. If you want to lower this cost, you may have to conduct a yard sale to get rid of some items that you don’t need. You can even donate items and not take them along with you.The more items that you have, the more money you will pay for moving costs. When you have fewer items, your move will be quicker, especially with loading and unloading the moving truck. Therefore, the cost of workmanship won’t add up as much. The same is true when the distance from one home to the next is short. Be sure to pack things in your own vehicle to cut down on costs.

3. Plan as Far Ahead as You Can

Get a good idea of the costs associated with moving. When calculating moving expenses, count on Moving Authority. We will match you up with companies who you can then call and ask about any available discounts that you can deduct your moving expenses. Some companies offer military, senior and student discounts. You will spend more money when moving long distance. Try not to move during certain times such as major holidays or summer weekends. The packing by itself for a long distance move is much more expensive than for a local move. You can always ask friends or family to help you with packing. If you are in need of special services such as expedited delivery, some companies offer this type of service for an additional fee. Most companies also offer to crate, such as a wooden crate, for your expensive and fragile items because they are sturdier. If your relocation has to do with a job promotion, you will be able to deduct this expense from your taxes.

Try not to move during certain times such as major holidays or summer weekends.

4. Avoid Scammers and Rogue Moving Companies

The first thing to do to avoid high moving fees derived from a moving calculator is to avoid scammers. There are moving companies out there that will scam you out of your money. Make sure to research all companies prior to booking your move, it will eliminate the prospect of doing business with scammers. Be sure to read online reviews of companies that don’t practice what they preach. Ask around to see if anyone has heard of a good moving company. This includes any moving company you find at Moving Authority. In your research, you will soon hear news about the companies on Moving Authority describing their experience, success, professionalism and care extended to customers.

Moving Questions Answered by Professionals

Have questions about packing? Maybe general questions about moving and your relocation needs? If you need Help With Moving offered on our Facebook page.

Understaning moving expenses can vary so much from move to move. The most important thing is to accurately import all of your inventory so that you know what you are starting with. The next thing to figure out is are you going to pack? Or will the moving company pack you. Obviously you wont have to pay for packing the actual boxes if you are doing it yourself.

If you are gonna pack yourself though, and you have high value items, anything that you pack yourself, the moving company is not responsible for. It's indicated on the inventory sheet by PBO (Packed by Owner).

If the moving company packs you, then yes, they are completely responsible for the items inside, if something breaks. It is their responsibility to fix it or pay for the damaged item. It is indicated on the inventory by PBC (Packed by Carrier).

Another thing to take into consideration is moving yourself. Are you gonna drive or are you gonna fly? If you are going to drive then you are gonna need to stay at a hotel and you will have to plan this out so that you factor this into your expenses. If you are going to fly then you will need transport for your vehicle and you will need to get a totally different service for transportation of cars.
