Hard working-family company. Came out and gave me estimate, then 5 days later moved my belongings from townhouse to a house 30 min away. Quote was exactly right on time needed, and rate was very reasonable. Very happy with the move and would use them again.

Stevens moving has moved one of my relatives on 2 separate events. Once in MI and the other in FL. Both times the administration has been brilliant. They were speedy, proficient and their quote was comparable to their rivals. Nothing was broken amid the move, and the movers were polite and proficient. I would have them handle my best course of action.

Moving is never all that much fun and I am astounded at the negative audits of this organization. Generally speaking the cost (since we were paying out of pocket) was reasonable and just a little premium over what it would have fetched me to do it without anyone else's help. The administration was incredible and they rushed to react to any inquiries that I had all through the move. There was next to no harm to any of our possessions and they were on time on both finishes of the move. I would suggest this organization as a possibility for any individual who is moving.

I would give them ZERO stars if I could. These people are by far the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with!! My father died on December 14th and with his home about to be foreclosed on and padlocked at any time I was left with the task of moving his stuff out of his house. On December 28th I spoke to Matt, the owner of the company, to get a quote and schedule a day and time for them to come out. We scheduled it for Friday 1/1/21 at 9am, but due to a chronic illness I have and not being able to get any help packing, I needed to reschedule it to Saturday. Matt told me that "Saturday would work and they'd be there between noon and 2pm." Long story short, they never showed up on Saturday because they had overbooked themselves and asked to reschedule it for Sunday. After having already waited around all day, I rearranged my schedule, said ok and agreed to meet them at the house between 9-9:30am. This morning (Sunday) they had another issue that made it so they didn't show up and when I called the owner, around 11:30, to find out what was going on, he told me he had given the crew the wrong address and they'd be there in about an hour. I asked if he would be willing to offer a discount since they hadn't shown up on Saturday and were already 3 hours late today and the owner flipped out and started yelling at me telling me that that this was all my fault since I had rescheduled it from Friday. He then went on to say he was not going to give me any discount and that if i wanted the job done I would pay full price and if i didn't like it I could go elsewhere. I responded by saying wow that's very unprofessional at which time he hung up on me A few minutes later he started texting me, harassing me and complaining that he had been sick for the past 3 days and was arranging all this from home. I told him I was very sorry that he was sick but that that should not be made to be MY problem as I am a paying customer, especially since he was not even with the crew that was coming to do the move and because he was the one who overbooked his crew so they did not show up on Saturday as scheduled. He then told me he was sending the crew home and good luck trying to find someone else! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS COMPANY!!! If this is how they treat someone who's father just died, imagine how you will be treated in your time of need. They are only $40 cheaper than other local companies, so save yourself the hassle and call some REAL professionals!!!

They even completed snappier than I anticipated. Extraordinary employment.

They were extraordinarily quick, despite the fact that we had twice the same number of boxes as guaranteed (totally unexpected, it's fair hard to envision how such a little loft has such a large number of boxes worth of stuff!). These folks were proficient, neighborly, and general extraordinary and what they do! The majority of our things survived the excursion, even the Ikea furniture that might have been nearly coming apart in any case. I would suggest them!

Awesome administration! They called the morning of to affirm the time they would arrive. Amid the move they ensured we were sure about what they were moving and where. Some of our furniture was a tight press getting into the rooms we needed it in however they did it without leaving a solitary imprint on the dividers.

Try not to utilize this moving Company. The main thing that turned out badly was the proprietor did not have me planned for the right day. Upon the arrival of my turn, I needed to call and ask him where his group was. They were assume to arrive at 9:00 am however did not appear until 11:20 am. The proprietor did not give me a rebate for his misstep. After the move, I found some gems and coins missing. When I reported it to the proprietor, he was not exceptionally supportive. I will never utilize this organization again. In the event that you choose to utilize this organization, be cautious.

In 1978 Sylvester Stallone starred in the film "F.I.S.T.". The story is loosely based on the 'Teamsters Union'. This union is a labor union which includes truck drivers as well as its then president, Jimmy Hoffa.

In 1895 Karl Benz designed and built the first truck in history by using the internal combustion engine. Later that year some of Benz's trucks gave into modernization and went on to become the first bus by the Netphener. This would be the first motor bus company in history. Hardly a year later, in 1986, another internal combustion engine truck was built by a man named Gottlieb Daimler. As people began to catch on, other companies, such as Peugeot, Renault, and Bussing, also built their own versions. In 1899, the first truck in the United States was built by Autocar and was available with two optional horsepower motors, 5 or 8.

The decade of the 70s saw the heyday of truck driving, and the dramatic rise in the popularity of "trucker culture". Truck drivers were romanticized as modern-day cowboys and outlaws (and this stereotype persists even today). This was due in part to their use of citizens' band (CB) radio to relay information to each other regarding the locations of police officers and transportation authorities. Plaid shirts, trucker hats, CB radios, and using CB slang were popular not just with drivers but among the general public.

In 1971, author and director Steven Spielberg, debuted his first feature length film. His made-for-tv film, Duel, portrayed a truck driver as an anonymous stalker. Apparently there seems to be a trend in the 70's to negatively stigmatize truck drivers.

In the 20th century, the 1940 film "They Drive by Night" co-starred Humphrey Bogart. He plays an independent driver struggling to become financially stable and economically independent. This is all set during the times of the Great Depression. Yet another film was released in 1941, called "The Gang's All Here". It is a story of a trucking company that's been targeted by saboteurs.

As most people have experienced, moving does involve having the appropriate materials. Some materials you might find at home or may be more resourceful to save money while others may choose to pay for everything. Either way materials such as boxes, paper, tape, and bubble wrap with which to pack box-able and/or protect fragile household goods. It is also used to consolidate the carrying and stacking on moving day. Self-service moving companies offer another viable option. It involves the person moving buying a space on one or more trailers or shipping containers. These containers are then professionally driven to the new location.

In the United States, a commercial driver's license is required to drive any type of commercial vehicle weighing 26,001 lb (11,794 kg) or more. In 2006 the US trucking industry employed 1.8 million drivers of heavy trucks.

Medium trucks are larger than light but smaller than heavy trucks. In the US, they are defined as weighing between 13,000 and 33,000 pounds (6,000 and 15,000 kg). For the UK and the EU, the weight is between 3.5 and 7.5 tons (3.9 and 8.3 tons). Local delivery and public service (dump trucks, garbage trucks, and fire-fighting trucks) are around this size.

Without strong land use controls, buildings are too often built in town right along a bypass. This results with the conversion of it into an ordinary town road, resulting in the bypass becoming as congested as the local streets. On the contrary, a bypass is intended to avoid such local street congestion. Gas stations, shopping centers, along with various other businesses are often built alongside them. They are built in hopes of easing accessibility, while home are ideally avoided for noise reasons.

A properly fitted close-coupled trailer is fitted with a rigid tow bar. It then projects from its front and hooks onto a hook on the tractor. It is important to not that it does not pivot as a draw bar does.

The term "lorry" has an ambiguous origin, but it is likely that its roots were in the rail transport industry. This is where the word is known to have been used in 1838 to refer to a type of truck (a freight car as in British usage) specifically a large flat wagon. It may derive from the verb lurry, which means to pull or tug, of uncertain origin. It's expanded meaning was much more exciting as "self-propelled vehicle for carrying goods", and has been in usage since 1911. Previously, unbeknownst to most, the word "lorry" was used for a fashion of big horse-drawn goods wagon.

The FMCSA has established rules to maintain and regulate the safety of the trucking industry. According to FMCSA rules, driving a goods-carrying CMV more than 11 hours or to drive after having been on duty for 14 hours, is illegal. Due to such heavy driving, they need a break to complete other tasks such as loading and unloading cargo, stopping for gas and other required vehicle inspections, as well as non-working duties such as meal and rest breaks. The 3-hour difference between the 11-hour driving limit and 14 hour on-duty limit gives drivers time to take care of such duties. In addition, after completing an 11 to 14 hour on duty period, the driver much be allowed 10 hours off-duty.

The main purpose of the HOS regulation is to prevent accidents due to driver fatigue. To do this, the number of driving hours per day, as well as the number of driving hours per week, have been limited. Another measure to prevent fatigue is to keep drivers on a 21 to 24-hour schedule in order to maintain a natural sleep/wake cycle. Drivers must take a daily minimum period of rest and are allowed longer "weekend" rest periods. This is in hopes to combat cumulative fatigue effects that accrue on a weekly basis.

In 1991 the film "Thelma & Louise" premiered, rapidly becoming a well known movie. Throughout the movie, a dirty and abrasive truck driver harasses the two women during chance encounters. Author Michael Dunne describes this minor character as "fat and ignorant" and "a lustful fool blinded by a delusion of male superiority". Thelma and Louise exact their revenge by feigning interest in him and then blowing up his tanker truck full of gas.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is a division of the USDOT specializing in highway transportation. The agency's major influential activities are generally separated into two different "programs". The first is the Federal-aid Highway Program. This provides financial aid to support the construction, maintenance, and operation of the U.S. highway network. The second program, the Federal Lands Highway Program, shares a similar name with different intentions. The purpose of this program is to improve transportation involving Federal and Tribal lands. They also focus on preserving "national treasures" for the historic and beatific enjoyment for all.

The USDOT (USDOT or DOT) is considered a federal Cabinet department within the U.S. government. Clearly, this department concerns itself with all aspects of transportation with safety as a focal point. The DOT was officially established by an act of Congress on October 15, 1966, beginning its operation on April 1, 1967. Superior to the DOT, the United States Secretary of Transportation governs the department. The mission of the DOT is to "Serve the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible, and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life for the American people, today and into the future." Essentially this states how important it is to improve all types of transportation as a way to enhance both safety and life in general etc. It is important to note that the DOT is not in place to hurt businesses, but to improve our "vital national interests" and our "quality of life". The transportation networks are in definite need of such fundamental attention. Federal departments such as the USDOT are key to this industry by creating and enforcing regulations with intentions to increase the efficiency and safety of transportation.

The feature film "Joy Ride" premiered in 2001, portraying the story of two college-age brothers who by a CB radio while taking a road trip. Although the plot seems lighthearted, it takes a quick turn after one of the brothers attempts a prank on an unknown truck driver. They soon find out the dangerous intentions of this killer driver, who is set on getting his revenge. Seven years later in 2008 the sequel "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead" came out on DVD only. Similar to its predecessor, the plot involves another murdering truck driver, a.k.a "Rusty Nail". He essentially plays psychological mind games with a young couple on a road trip.

Released in 1998, the film Black Dog featured Patrick Swayze as a truck driver who made it out of prison. However, his life of crime continued, as he was manipulated into the transportation of illegal guns. Writer Scott Doviak has described the movie as a "high-octane riff on White Line Fever" as well as "a throwback to the trucker movies of the 70s".

In 1933, as a part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “New Deal”, the National Recovery Administration requested that each industry creates a “code of fair competition”. The American Highway Freight Association and the Federated Trucking Associations of America met in the spring of 1933 to speak for the trucking association and begin discussing a code. By summer of 1933 the code of competition was completed and ready for approval. The two organizations had also merged to form the American Trucking Associations. The code was approved on February 10, 1934. On May 21, 1934, the first president of the ATA, Ted Rogers, became the first truck operator to sign the code. A special "Blue Eagle" license plate was created for truck operators to indicate compliance with the code.

Commercial trucks in the U.S. pay higher road taxes on a State level than the road vehicles and are subject to extensive regulation. This begs the question of why these trucks are paying more. I'll tell you. Just to name a few reasons, commercial truck pay higher road use taxes. They are much bigger and heavier than most other vehicles, resulting in more wear and tear on the roadways. They are also on the road for extended periods of time, which also affects the interstate as well as roads and passing through towns. Yet, rules on use taxes differ among jurisdictions.
