In the late 1800s the city was able to grow its population by the development of electricity which attracted people to the city and railroads which allowed people to migrate to the city. Soon thereafter there was the development of concrete from other cities to Virginia Beach, allowing many people with automobiles to visit the beach on their own. Over the years, the people of Virginia Beach had kept developing the town and this turned its reputation as a vacation spot for the summer.
