If you don’t want to bike, then you can visit the beach, which is actually a lot closer than it may seem. The Pacific Ocean is just to the west, about an hours drive away. The trees in the city have gained many accolades. The cherry trees have gained Salem the title “Tree City”. The cozy downtown area is also a place to see. It’s more of a city center than a bustling downtown. It’s full of charming restaurants, as well as interesting places to shop. If you plan on getting married after you move to Salem, there is really no better place to do it than in the Deepwood Estate. It was constructed in the late 19th century, and has been beautifully maintained ever since.
Kettle Chips were invented in Salem in the 80’s by two men who made it their goal to create chips that were healthy and all natural. Now, the brand is nationwide and is doing great. Salem hosts a kids party every year for younger ones to enjoy. The Summer Art Fair and Festival lasts for just three days, but draws crowds from all over. There is food, live music, and artists. If you feel like staying indoors, you can stop by the Pentacle Theater. There is always a production being put on, and each performance is really good. You can even audition to be part of the next show. Then if you feel like getting back outside, drop by Bush’s Pasture Park located in the center of the city. There are more trails for walking, as well as biking, jogging. There are also gardens and sports courts to enjoy. The Enchanted Forest amusement park is basically a small-scale Disneyland with a wide array of cute and fun little attractions.
The Salem Wine Trail boasts a dozen different vineyards to try some delicious, fresh, local wine. The State Fair takes place in the city every summer. There is face panting, rides, food, and cattle contests, so you can show off your prize-winning cow. For lovers of vinyl, Ranch Records has you covered. There are more records than you could ever want here, and they're all great. If you want to go shopping for something other than vinyl records, stop by the French Unicorn for your fill of jewelry and clothes. Salem also has their own version of Subway. The Croissant & Co. will make you any sandwich, just the way you like it, with bread that is baked fresh daily. If you want to take a little time to unwind, then drop by Riverfront Park, where you can take a steamboat ride or go kayaking. The park also has a trail for walking and some really cool sculptures. Overall, Salem is a beautiful place to move, with things to do for the entire family, and a never-ending charm factor that makes it nearly irresistible.
