The city of Tucson, Arizona was founded in the year of 1775. The population is currently over 500,000 people, many of them working at and developing the University of Arizona. Many high tech industries have been starting up in the area due to the presence of that university as well as due to the presence of the US Army Intelligence Center. Many of these companies include Texas Instruments, Bombardier Aerospace and IBM. Besides the residents and workers in the area are people who come to the city to take a tour. There are many attractions in the city which include shows on jewelry, fossils and gems as well as the mild winter weather which people living colder climates are attracted to. Other shows include the Festival of Books, the Tucson Rodeo and Tucson Folk Festival. These are only a few of the multiple events held in the city every year. The city has its fair share of museums as well. There is not much focus on performing and music in the city however, the amount of festivals and museums outweigh the lack of performing arts and musical activities as many of the festivals include performing arts and music as well. Other attractions also include parks and recreation. There are over 120 parks located in the city which include the scenic Sabino Canyon and the Tohono Chul Park. Higher education is valued in the city as there are over twelve colleges and universities located in the city. Many of the neighborhoods have their own personality and differ from each other in how they are presented in the public. Downtown has more of a business feel and many people come there to have fun or to go eat out and relax. The Southern side has more old businesses that have been with the city for a long time. The Western side is more of the suburban area which includes many houses along the desert. Here, you will also find the Saguaro National Park.
